Lake Burton, Georgia is a marvel to behold. It is hard to imagine that in the largest industrial nation there are still places well hidden away and preserved inside the deep valleys of the North Georgia Mountains. This 10 mile stretch of the Tallulah River, a fresh water haven which provides an amazing 62 miles of gorgeous manmade shorelines, was originally created by the Georgia Power Company as one of their five hydroelectric power lakes. Lake Burton is the largest of the lakes that provided hydroelectric power to Atlanta, Georgia in the early 20th century. The Lake Burton Dam was completed on December 22, 1919 and continues to provide peak-demand hydroelectric power today. Lake Burton also serves as a remote getaway for the vacationer seeking to enjoy the flexibility of simple or sophisticated, adventurous or relaxing, yet always enchanting and always elegant days. Whether you’re into camping, boating, picnics, spa treatments, horseback riding or a simply wasting the day away fishing, Lake Burton is the destination for you. Spanning an amazing 2,775+ acres, Lake Burton is located in the Northeastern section of Rabun County Georgia approximately two short hours away from Atlanta Georgia.

Imagine the scenery while basking in the golden sun on shores of Lake Burton with the smells of the forest all around. As the sun warms your skin, you may decide to stroll into the fresh waters for a little swim to cool off.

It’s still early in the day and you’re in the mood for a little adventure, but what to do? You could cinch up your boots and hit the Appalachian trails to do a little hiking or rock climbing or maybe rest your feet a bit by visiting one of the equestrian centers and take an afternoon horseback ride.

Of course, you may decide to hit the lake. Just minutes away from Laurel Haven, boat rentals are available. You could cruise mid-lake where you can spend the rest of the day casting your rod for any number of fantastic fish including Spotted Bass, Largemouth Bass, White Bass, Black Crappie, Bluegill, Redear Sunfish, White Catfish, Walleye, Brown Trout, Rainbow Trout and Yellow Perch. Whether you’re casting off of a boat or hitting a nearby stream for some fly fishing, snagging any one of these magnificent fish will be a story you will be telling for years to come. Of course fishing isn’t for everyone. Skip the fishing and go water skiing or simply cruise the lake in a motor boat or kick back old school and appreciate the serenity by paddling canoes or kayaks. If you’re feeling very adventurous you could always head for the nearby Chattooga, Ocoee or Nantahala Rivers to do some white water rafting.

For those seeking more pampered treatment, you could spend the day at a spa in nearby Helen, Hiawassee or Toccoa. After the spa, what better way to relax than to snuggle up next to a warm fire place, lake-side, underneath the stars.

Laurel Haven is the premiere home on beautiful Lake Burton.
