To see Lake Burton Georgia is a marvel to behold. It is hard to imagine in the largest industrial nation there are still places well hidden away and preserved inside the deep valleys of the North Georgia Mountains. This 10 mile stretch of the Tallulah River, a fresh water haven, which provides an amazing 62 miles of gorgeous manmade shorelines was originally created by the Georgia Power Company as one part of five in their hydroelectric dam lakes, Lake Burton is the largest of the hydroelectric lakes that provided power to Atlanta Georgia in the early 20th century. Lake Burton was retired as a damn on December 22, 1919 and now serves as a remote getaway for the vacationer seeking to enjoy the flexibility of simple or sophisticated, adventurous or relaxing, yet always enchanting and always elegant days. Whether you’re into camping, boating, picnics, spa treatments, horseback riding or a simply wasting the day away fishing, Lake Burton is the destination for you. Spanning an amazing 2,775+ acres, Lake Burton is located in the Northeastern section of Rabun County Georgia approximately two short hours away from Atlanta Georgia.

Imagine the scenery of basking in the golden sun on the white sandy shores with the smell of the forest just inches away. Those tall as the sun warms your skin you decide to stroll into the cool fresh waters for a little swim to cool off.

It’s still early in the day and you’re in the mood for a little adventure, but what to do? You could back to your rental and strap on some hiking shoes and hit the Appalachian trails to do a little rock climbing or maybe even rest your feet a bit by visiting one of the equestrian centers and renting a horse for the afternoon.

Of course that’s if you decide that just minutes away from where you are boat rentals. Where you could cruise mid lake where you can spend the rest of the day casting your reel in for any number of fantastic fish including Spotted Bass, Largemouth Bass, White Bass, Black Crappie, Bluegill, Redear Sunfish, White Catfish, Walleye, Brown Trout, Rainbow Trout, and yellow perch. Whether you’re casting off of a boat or hitting a nearby stream for some fly fishing, snagging anyone of these magnificent is catch you will be telling about for years to come. Of course fishing isn’t for everyone, skip the fishing and go water skiing or simply cruise the lake in the motor boat or kick it back old school and appreciate the view by renting canoes or kayaks. If you’re feeling very adventures you could always head for the peaks to do some white water rafting.

For those seeking the more pampered treatment there is always spending the day at a spa and what better way to relax after the spa than to snuggle up next to a warm fire place lake side underneath stars.

Laurel Haven is the premiere home on beautiful Lake Burton.
